What will Heaven be like? ...

Chapter 21 of Revelation reveals events that will take place in the future...

  • In the future, New Jerusalem will descend from Heaven, to rest on the Earth.
  • Since the prophecies in Revelation 21 are not as yet fulfilled, the present location of New Jerusalem is in God's Heaven. Its future location is on Planet Earth.
  • TAKE NOTICE - At present, New Jerusalem (Paradise) is a place within God's Heaven. Thus, New Jerusalem is NOT ALL of God's Heaven.

Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God Rev 21.2b

A great study on Heaven by Bible Bell:

New Jerusalem is laid out as a square.
Its length and breadth are equal.
And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as its breadth. Rev 21.16a
The perimeter of New Jerusalem is 12 thousand furlongs.   And he (the angel) measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Rev 21.16b

Each furlong equals one-eighth of a mile.

  • Accordingly, the perimeter of New Jerusalem is 1,500 miles.
  • Since New Jerusalem is laid out as a square, this means that each side of New Jerusalem is 375 miles long.
  • In summary, New Jerusalem has an area of 140,625 square miles, or 90 million acres.
Fur·long (fûr“lông”, -l¼ng”) n. Abbr. fur. A unit for measuring distance, equal to one-eighth mile (201 meters). American Heritage Dictionary

The outer boundaries of the garden city are established by a large wall that completely surrounds it.

The wall measures 144 cubits. In our OPINION, this is a measure of the wall's
height.
Then he (an angel) measured its (New Jerusalem's) wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits Rev 21.17a

216 Feet High

One cubit is approximately one foot and a half.

Therefore, the height of the wall approximates 216 feet.

  CUBIT - Strong's Number: 4083 (pechus)
Denotes the forearm, i.e., the part between the hand and the elbowjoint; hence, "a measure of length," not from the wrist to the elbow, but from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow joint, i.e., about a foot and a half, or a little less than two feet, Matt. 6:27; Luke 12:25; John 21:8; Rev. 21:17.
Vine's New Testament Dictionary

Translucent Jasper

New Jerusalem's wall is constructed of jasper. Jasper is a cryptocrystalline variety of quartz that may be red, yellow, or brown.

And the construction of its wall was of jasper Rev 21.18a
In our OPINION, New Jerusalem's wall is a translucent sheet of jasper. That is, the garden city's wall transmits light.   JASPER - Strong's Number: 2393 (iaspis)
A Phoenician word (cf. Heb. yash'pheh, e.g., Exod. 28:20; 39:16), seems to have denoted a translucent stone of various colors, especially that of fire, Rev. 4:3; 21:11, 18, 19. The sardius and the jasper, of similar color, were the first and last stones on the breastplate of the high priest, Ex. 28:17, 20.
Vine's New Testament Dictionary

12 Foundation Pillars (Stele)

New Jerusalem's wall has 12 foundations.

The names of the 12 apostles of Jesus are inscribed on the foundations.

The foundations are adorned with precious stones.

Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev 21.14

And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of
precious stones Rev 21.19a
In our OPINION, the wall's foundations are 12 supporting pillars (stele), one at each corner of the wall, and two on each side of the wall.   STELE - an upright stone slab or pillar engraved with an inscription or design and used as a monument. New World Dictionary

The Gates of New Jerusalem

The wall of the garden city has 12 gates, three on each side.

There are 12 angels who attend the gates.

The names of the 12 tribes of Israel are inscribed on the gates.

Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. Rev 21.12-13
Each of the 12 gates is constructed of one pearl. Note 4   And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. Rev 21.21a

Some folks think that New Jerusalem is a cube, because Revelation 21.16 says, "Its length, breadth, and height are equal."   And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. Rev 21.16
Based on the various verses that describe New Jerusalem, it is Bible Bell's OPINION that New Jerusalem is a huge area of land -- a garden, to be precise. It is square, not cube-shaped.

Our rationale is given in following paragraphs...

  • The Bible says New Jerusalem is laid out as a square. It does not say it is laid out as a cube.
And the city is laid out as a square (tetragonos), and its length is as great as its breadth. Rev 21.16a
  • In Revelation 21.16, "square" translates the Greek word tetragonos. Tetragonos means four cornered. A square is 4-cornered whereas a cube is 8-cornered.
tetragonos ^5068^, "four-cornered" (from tetra, and gonia, "a corner, or angle"), is found in <Rev. 21:16>.#
(from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)
(Copyright (C) 1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance 5068 - tetragonos
four-cornered, i.e. square:
KJV--foursquare.
  • A cube would be a building.  New Jerusalem is Paradise -- a garden (Gk paradeisos), not a building.
  Strong's Exhaustive Concordance 3857 - paradeisos
a park, i.e. (specifically) an Eden (place of future happiness, "paradise"):

KJV--paradise.
  • New Jerusalem is surrounded by a wall. A cube-shaped New Jerusalem would be a building, 350 miles tall. A building such as this would not need a wall. A private garden would.
Also she (New Jerusalem) had a great and high wall with twelve gates Rev 21.12a
  • A river flows in New Jerusalem. Orchards of fruit trees are there. These are attributes of a garden. not of a giant, cube-shaped building.
And he (an angel) showed me (the apostle John) a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. Rev 21.1-2a
  • The fact that New Jerusalem's height is the same as its length and breadth does not mandate a cube-shaped building.
  • Mount Zion is located at the heavenly New Jerusalem. The height of the Mount defines the height of the city.
Its (New Jerusalem's) length, breadth, and height are equal. Rev 21.16b

But you have come to
Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem Heb 12.22a

NOTE 2 -- The Size of New Jerusalem

Revelation 21.16 may mean that each side of New Jerusalem is 12,000 furlongs (1,500 miles).

  • Bible Bell interprets this verse as referring to New Jerusalem's perimeter, NOT each side.
  • Revelation 21.16 says the angel measured the city. We think this means the city as a whole, not just its respective sides.
  • By Bible Bell's interpretation (OPINION), each of the city's four sides would be 3,000 furlongs (375 miles).
And the city (New Jerusalem) is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as its breadth. And he (an angel) measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. Rev 21.16

Note 3 -- The Foundations of the Walls of New Jerusalem

Notice that it is New Jerusalem's wall that has foundations, NOT the garden city itself.

A garden city does not need foundations. A wall does.
Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev 21.14

Notice also that it is possible to view precious stones and the names of the apostles on the foundations.

  • This viewing would not be possible if the foundations were embedded in the earth under the wall.
  • This leads us to conclude that the foundations are pillars (stele).
Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev 21.14

And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of
precious stones Rev 21.19a

Note 4 -- The Pearls, Precious Stones, and Golden Streets of New Jerusalem

The Bible clearly states that New Jerusalem is adorned with huge pearls, streets of pure gold, and all manner of precious stones.

Some folks say that these adornments brand the description of the garden city as being symbolic or even mythical in nature.
And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones Rev 21.19a

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
Rev 21.21
Some folks even say (in effect), "There ain't no such thing as a pearl big enough to be a city gate."

To which statement Bible Bell responds, "Mere humans can make
imitation pearls that big. OF COURSE God can create real pearls of any size that suits His purpose."
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'' Mt 19.26
The Bible clearly states that God adorned New Jerusalem as a bride for her husband.

We humans give jewels and gold to those we love. Why should we have any difficulty in believing that God gives such gifts to
His loved ones (the citizens of New Jerusalem)?
Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev 21.2

The only reason that there are precious stones, gold, and other beautiful things on the earth is because God created them.

  • You see beauty throughout God's creation -- butterfly wings, crystalline snowflakes, flowers, multi-colored fish and birds -- beauty!

  • God enjoys beauty. That's why He created jewels and other beautiful things on earth. And that's why He created jewels and other beautiful things in Heaven.

  • Why should anyone have even the slightest difficulty in understanding that?

Post Script - When you thank God for (e.g.) bringing a beautiful newborn baby into your family and heart, remember -- a dog or a tree would not recognize the beauty of that baby. But YOU do.

  • Thus, you should thank God, not only for the child's beauty, but for the fact that He vested you with the discernment to see and relish the beauty of that child.
  • POINT IS - your very ability to recognize and enjoy beauty, to relish the perfume of flowers, to be transcended by music, ALL are gifts from God to you.

The Orchard of God

All along the river's verdant banks you see lofty, fruit-bearing trees...

  • Trees of Life -- a vast Orchard of Life -- lift their leafy arms, all along the unending flow of Life's River.
  • Everything around you teems and throbs with Life. Everlasting Life! Joyous, Eternal Life!
...on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Rev 22.2
  • And your heart overflows with praise and worship of the Creator and sustainer of ALL life -- the Living God! Halleluyah!
In Him (God) we live and move and have our being Acts 17.28a

(
Jesus said to the Father...) And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17.3

No Houses in Heaven?

In Bible Bell's OPINION, neither you nor the other citizens of New Jerusalem will live in houses or buildings.

As to this OPINION, consider the following...

In John 14.2, Jesus told us that He was going to prepare a place for us in Heaven.

As shown in the panel alongside, John 14.2 refers to our heavenly domicile by two Greek words:

  • (1) topos
  • (2) mone
(Jesus told us...) In My Father's house are many mansions (mone); if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place (topos) for you. John 14.2

Depending on context, topos can mean any of the following...

  • Region
  • Locality
  • Room
  • A place occupied by a person or thing
  • A couch at a table
TOPOS is used of "a region" or "locality," frequently in the Gospels and Acts, in Luke 2:7 and 14:22, "room"; of a place which a person or thing occupies, a couch at table, e. g., Luke 14:9,10, RV, "place" (KJV, "room")
(from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)
(Copyright (C) 1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)
Mone means "a staying place" or "abode."

Vine's Expository Dictionary says: "There is nothing in the word to indicate separate compartments in heaven."
MONE - Primarily "a staying abiding" (akin to meno, "to abide"), denotes an "abode," translated "mansions" in John 14:2; "abode" in v. 23. There is nothing in the word to indicate separate compartments in heaven; neither does it suggest temporary resting places on the road.
(from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)
(Copyright (C) 1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)

Accordingly, John 14.2 can be interpreted to mean that Jesus promised to prepare a region (topos) in Heaven to be an abode (mone) for God's people...

  • The "region" is that area within the vastness of God's Heaven whereat is located Paradise -- the New Jerusalem.
  • The "abode" is New Jerusalem itself -- the Garden of God -- NOT apartment buildings or a tract of houses.

As It Was in the Beginning, So Shall It Ever Be

In the beginning, God gave His people a Garden to live in.

  • Not a house, but a Garden.

In Bible Bell's OPINION, your future home in Heaven will be like that of your forebears, Adam and Eve.

  • Not a house, but a Garden.
The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. Gen 2.8
No houses in New Jerusalem!! Ah, but where will you sleep? Where will you find shelter and privacy?

The simple answer is that your glorified resurrection body will require neither sleep nor shelter nor privacy, for the simple reason that...

  • Your body will be like that of Jesus
  • Your body will be incorruptible and immortal -- not subject to aging, tiredness, or death
(The Lord Jesus Christ...) will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Philipp 3.21

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1 Cor 15.53

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He (
Jesus) is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3.2

At Last -- A House to REALLY Live In!

God has promised to give you an immortal, incorruptible body.

That lovely, perfect, wonderful body is the only "house" that your redeemed and joyous spirit -- the REAL you -- will ever need. Halleluyah!

For we know that if our earthly house (our current bodies), this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God (our resurrected, glorified bodies), a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Cor 5.1

A List of What's Missing in Heaven

Moreover...

There will be no more sin

And no more curse

Hence there shall be no storms. No pollution. No violence. No shame. No fear. No jealousy. No hatred. Only love and respect, one for the other, among all God's people.

In God's perfect Paradise, who will need or even desire to be sequestered behind the four walls of a house?

Nobody!

But there shall by no means enter it (New Jerusalem) anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Rev 21.27

And there shall be no more curse
Rev 22.3a

What Is Heaven Like?

There is a place called heaven,
That's made for you and me.
I'd like to paint a picture,
For all the world to see.

There's pearly gates, streets of gold,
And angels everywhere.
When we get to heaven,
No more burdens will we bear.

There is a choir of angels,
Smiling as they sing.
Glory, glory hallelujah,
To Jesus Christ our King.

As the heavenly choir sings,
Praises to His name.
When Jesus looks into my eyes,
I'll want to do the same.

As I walk the streets of gold,
The people that I see.
Are all the ones I had on earth,
Who were so dear to me.

So as I go into my house,
That Jesus built for me.
I look around and now can say,
It all makes sense to me.

As I look into God's eyes,
While seated on His throne.
This is why He sent His son,
To build for me a home.

When I get to heaven,
I will not know the time.
I pray God puts your mansion,
Right next door to mine.

HEAVEN
"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come,
you who are blessed by My Father, enter the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the world'"
(Matthew 25:34).

Paul wrote these words: "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him" (I Corinthians 2:9).

The first heaven no doubt, is the biosphere of the planet earth. It is where the birds fly.

The second heaven then, takes in the cosmology of the universe. It is where the stars, planets and comets live.

The third heaven is above, or extends around the second heaven and earth’s biosphere. This is where the apostle Paul was caught up to.

It is a real geographical place with real tangible items and personalities.

FIRST heaven is a real geographical place.

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Satan desired to have God’s throne. It is to the north of the planet earth. It sits in the "sides of the north". The mount of the congregation in the sides of the north is where God met with the sons of God.

Psa 48:1... is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

It has foundations like the earth
Heb 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

Jesus is there
Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

There are thrones there
The true or real tabernacle is there “ making the one Moses built only a shadow!!! Things are really REAL in heaven!

There is food in heaven! And Doors too! ( if there is bread in heaven then it follows that there must be wheat fields, farms, and farmers too!)
Exo 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you

Psa 78:23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, 24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. 25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

There are mountains in heaven
There are roads in heaven - Exo 24:10
There are houses there - Deu 26:15 Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel... Amos 9:6
There are rainbows in heaven & water & precious stones

There is government in heaven - Col 1:16 and if government then someone to govern!
There are armies in heaven & animals - Rev 19:14 - Armies need training and feeding and
The earth and all its "appearances" are no more than shadows of the real. Heaven Is The Real Thing!!!

Thirdly - Is Heaven & New Jerusalem The Same? “ NO, New Jerusalem is the City Of God That Comes Down To Earth.

Deu 11:21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
Rev 21:10 - Rev 21:23
Furlong = 220 yards x 3 ft = 660 ft X 12,000 = 7,920,000 / 5,280 = 1,500 Miles

The New Jerusalem is larger than the moon!!! It is 1,500 miles long, high and wide!! And yet it will sit on the earth. This throws new light on our current understanding of science and physics!

In Jesus' teaching, heaven is often pictured as a place of great joy. Of all things to which Jesus could have compared heaven to, He chose to compare it with a great feast. "The image of the kingdom is that of a vast hall for feasting and joy, all blazing with light" (Lenski p. 331). Far from being cold, antiseptic or the silence of a monastery or library, heaven is pictured as a wonderful banquet, filled with happy quests, and filled with the warmth of friendship, like the warm glow that radiates from a happy home during the holidays. Jesus often compared the kingdom of heaven, which includes the church here and in eternity to a grand and lavish banquet. In Matthew 22:1-14, the comparison is to a wedding feast that a king gave for his son. "Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast" (22:4). Most of us have never even been to an earthly wedding of this magnitude. The common Jewish wedding was celebrated over a period of seven days. This royal wedding would go far beyond that. Once again, Jesus who came from heaven is trying to describe to us the wonder, magnificence, joy, splendor and abundance of heaven. He selected a wedding feast which only a king could afford, in which he would lavish upon his guests the best of everything, from the best steaks to the best desserts. The type of feast and celebration in which no corners had been cut and no expense was spared. In light of such a wonderful invitation, it is truly amazing that some people can't seem to get excited about such an invite (22:5). In the face of such a wonderful offer, some people would rather look at a piece of property or plow a field (Luke 14:16-19). What sort of silly and mundane thing are we tempted to occupy ourselves with instead of accepting God's offer of eternal life? Can you imagine anyone wanting to plow a field or look at a piece of property instead of going to a lavish banquet? Can you imagine someone not wanting to bring his new bride to such a wonderful and festive feast? (14:20) Instead, why didn't this newly married man say, "Honey, what luck! We have been invited to a lavish banquet. What a wonderful event to take place during our honeymoon!" Wouldn't you think that people would have considered themselves fortunate to even be invited in the first place? Jesus seems to be saying, "You just have to see this place!" Then in the story of the prodigal son, heaven is also pictured as a place of great rejoicing (Luke 15:7). Long ago David had said, "In Thy presence is fulness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever" (Psalm 16:11).

Far from being an uncomfortable place, heaven is viewed as a place in which the believer can relax and enjoy themselves. I believe some people worry as to whether heaven is a place in which God is constantly scrutinizing us, and just waiting for us to slip up. Heaven isn't pictured as a stiff, stuffy and uncomfortable party in which you are afraid to touch anything. Rather, the picture is that of God comforting us and putting us at ease. In all these verses God is pictured as a gracious host who encourages us to partake of what He is offering. I see the same picture in what is said concerning Lazarus when he died, "but now he is being comforted here" (Luke 16:25).

I think some people worry about whether heaven will be boring, or a place of eternal inactivity. When I look at these verses I see the word "rest" meaning that our labors on this earth are over, the period of testing and trial has been finished. I believe that the comfort given to Lazarus was that his life of suffering, struggling, pain, discomfort, etc.was through. He had passed the test! "the soul now rests from life's competition, its toil, sorrow, pain, its mental anguish and especially its sin!" (The Bible On The Life Hereafter, William Hendriksen, p. 59). Heaven will mean the release from all those things which seem to get under our mental and emotional skin. How often do various thoughts eat away at your happiness or contentment? You will be delivered from restless thoughts, rehashing the same thing over and over in your mind, dwelling on past mistakes, past regrets and lost opportunities. You will be finally delivered from sins of the mind, lust, envy, jealousy, anger, bitterness, resentment, self-pity, etc. Oh, how that will be a nice change! "Rest" also seems to imply that eternal life with God will not be an awkward existence. Lest anyone worry about the question, "How do I act in the very presence of God?", the clear implication is that God makes the first move, and that God is a heavenly parent who will make all the saved feel extremely welcome, "Well done, good and faithful slave. enter into the joy of your master" (Matthew 25:21).

We tend to forget that heaven is heaven because God is there! God is the source of true life, God is the giver of all blessings (James 1:17). Even on this earth, this world is beautiful because God made it, and this life is bearable because God is constantly providing good things, even to unbelievers (Acts 14:17).

In view of such passages, "Eternal Life" must always be viewed as something far beyond eternal existence, for even those in hell have eternal existence. The hope of eternal life (Titus 1:2), is to experience a quality of life that surrounds the immediate presence of God.

In this life, how often do sinful attitudes spoil even the best experiences or day? How often, even in the midst of a wonderful event, do we fight and struggle with feelings of envy, jealousy, self-pity, anger, resentment, bitterness, depression, fear, worry, and so on? In this life prosperous times often bring their own temptations. At other times, we almost end up spoiling a good thing when we want too much of it right now! In this life, everything also has a let down. We might be unable to enjoy the final days of our vacation, because we know that it is coming to an end. Many of us might even intentionally keep our expectations low, lest we get them up only to be disappointed. How many wonderful things and experiences in this life have we truly messed up because of all the mind games that we are playing? How many people actually avoid great experiences in this life, because of all the work, planning, and "stress" that is associated with having a good time? In light of all such things, we should be able to say as David said, "My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?" (Psalm 42:2).

Now and then famous people will be asked to make up a list of the 10 people in history, past or present to form the ideal dinner party. On most lists, Jesus of Nazareth is the first guest invited. Heaven means being in the eternal company of the best people who ever lived. Imagine the conversations! If you relish stimulating conversation, being around truly good and wonderful people, hearing exciting and intriguing stories, then just imagine hearing every detail of what happened in Egypt and the wilderness, from Moses himself! The entire life of Adam and Eve! The things which John said would fill books which the world itself could not contain (John 21:25). Hebrews chapter 11 gives us a good look into the type of people that will be found in heaven, "men of whom the world was not worthy" (11:38). Along the same line, in heaven there will be no more dealing with difficult people, "and nothing unclean and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it" (Revelation 21:27).

What is life like without sin or the desire to sin? What is the quality of life, contentment, meaning, purpose, etc, without sin? What thoughts could I think, what goals could I reach, if there wasn't any sin to get in the way? Clearly, we will never become Divine ourselves, for we are created beings. But does that mean that we won't continue to grow in knowledge, understanding, and similar qualities? Heaven is truly a place in which all self-imposed obstacles have been removed. Just think of the possibilities! A place where you can really reach your ultimate potential for goodness, happiness, righteousness, and so on! "but are like angels in heaven" (Matthew 22:30).

So when we ask the question, "What will being in heaven feel like?" The best we can do is say that it will far surpass any experience in this life. Also remember, that many wonderful experiences in this life are only "moments in time". Moments which quickly pass by, moments that we can't hold on to or keep. Moments that we can't fully capture. Yes, we can hold on to them as memories, but memories are only scaled down versions of the actual event. Memories can never hold on to the full force and all the feelings of a particular event. So heaven is not only better than your first kiss, the first time you fell head over heads in love, your wedding day, the birth of your first child, the best family vacation you ever had, the marriage of your children, graduation from college, making your parents proud, your 15 seconds of fame in some sport. But heaven also lasts forever!

Concerning heaven, C.S. Lewis wrote, "If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased" (The Weight of Glory and Other Addresses, pp. 1-2).

Through Paul, commenting upon the reward that awaits the righteous, God had penned, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us" (Romans 8:18).

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God"; "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and he shall dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them" (Revelation 21:3).

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). The saints in heaven shall see God in all His majesty. They shall behold the infinite glory of the Almighty One in as great a capacity as they are capable of. They shall not behold Him only at a distance, but "face to face" (I Corinthians 13:12).
